Pet Travel

Air New Zealand allows domestic cats, dogs and small caged birds to travel as checked in baggage on all domestic flights.

Jetstar at this stage is not equiped to transport your pets, but refers you to Quantas Freight to arrange this.

For good reason, there exists minimum animal welfare standards around packaging, stowage and handling of animals for carriage by air (IATA Live Animal Regulations).  Essentially your pet must be able to turn about normally while standing, to stand and sit erect, and to lie in a natural position.

The kennel also needs to conform to some common sense requirements like:

• What the kennel or portable carrier is made of
• Whether the kennel is sealed to prevent leakage should the animal soil
• Ventilation (of course)
• How the kennel is latched or closed; and finally
• Maxmimum sizes
